The choice between a native app, a cross-platform app and a responsive web app should follow from the usage context. A good mobile interface matters more than the mere choice of a framework.
Check usage context and target group
For occasional access from emails or search engines, a responsive web app is often directly reachable and easy to update. A regularly used application with a personal workspace can benefit from an installed app.
Network quality, device fleet, security requirements and whether private or managed devices are used also matter.
Assess device features realistically
Camera, location, push notifications, biometric login and offline storage are partly possible in the browser as well. Stronger reasons for a real app are Bluetooth, background processes, large offline data volumes or a necessary presence in the app stores.
Every device feature brings permissions, testing effort and requirements for data protection and operation. If only forms, lists and documents are needed, it should first be checked whether web technologies or a PWA can solve the same task reliably.
Model offline use and synchronisation
Offline capability is not a single checkbox but a functional decision: which data is stored locally, what may be changed offline and how are conflicts resolved?
A clear synchronisation status and traceable resumption after a lost connection are more important than the impression that an application is always fully online.
Plan distribution and further development
Web apps and PWAs can be updated centrally, while store apps have additional review and publishing processes. For native or cross-platform apps, frameworks such as Flutter or React Native are options; the choice does not replace an assessment of the device requirements.
A prototype of the most important mobile workflows clarifies early on whether a web app, PWA or real app best supports everyday work. Only then should technology and distribution be decided.
